Guyana and French Guiana have started talks that can lead to the realization of an Inter Guiana boxing tournament.
President of the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA), Steve Ninvalle yesterday met with Technical Director of the French Guiana Boxing Association, Jacques Chinon and held discussions on several topics.
High on the agenda included the Inter Guiana boxing tournament.
“We spoke about exploring the Inter Guiana boxing tournament of which they were very enthused about” Ninvalle told Stabroek Sport yesterday.
The meeting between Ninvalle and Chinon comes on the heels of a visit from Surinamese boxing president, Remie Burke. Burke was here last month and also held discussions on an Inter Guiana boxing tournament.
Ninvalle added that “The French personnel here have signaled their intentions to be part of that, so we and Suriname just need to make that a realization. They have also indicated that they want Guyana to be part of their competition in March and we also invited them to be part of our Goodwill and under-16 Tournaments.
“It underscores that Guyana is willing and ready to assist in any way possible towards the development of the sport in the Caribbean, further afield and among the Guianas.”
The GBA head also revealed that Chinon is visiting with two boxers, Leonardo Mosquea (81kg0 and Joseph Kesny (56kg) who will compete in the French National Championship in France on January 31.
The boxers will hold training sessions at the Andrew Lewis gym before departing on Tuesday.
“They want to do some sparring with our Guyanese boxers so will be facilitating that,” Ninvalle disclosed.
