Local small businesses facing product-packaging deficiencies will benefit from an engagement with the well-known Jamaican marketing communication agency Prism Communications Ltd, which the entity says will better position beneficiaries’ products to find favour with export markets.
The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) and the Guyana Marketing & Services Associa-tion have endorsed the January 26 forum, which will be held at the Pegasus Hotel, Georgetown, under the theme ‘Positioning Your Product in a Competitive Marketplace.’
A release received from the Chamber says attendees will secure “expert insights and pointers” on improving brand awareness with proper packaging, basic package and label designs, legal and regulatory principles of packaging and labels and package design strategy.
The event comes at a time when local export aspirants, including numerous small businesses in the agro-processing sector continued to be locked out of the export market on account of deficiencies in their packaging and labelling. While there have been local courses designed to assist small businesses with packaging and labelling most of them have been unable to meet the high costs associated with consistently turning out high-quality labelled and packaged goods. On the local market some manufactured goods produced here have also had to play second fiddle to imported goods on the shelves of supermarkets and other outlets.
Prism Communications has secured a reputation in Jamaica for enhancing the marketing capabilities of several Jamaican companies over the past 20 years. The release issued by the GCCI says the company “will be sharing its knowledge and expert strategies with proprietors and executives of small businesses in Guyana to improve their brands within the competitive sphere of the export market.” The work of Prism has been associated with the marketing strategies of several reputable Jamaican companies including Red Stripe Beer; Nestle, Jamaica; Digicel; Carib Cement and Sherwyn Williams.
The one-day event is being staged in collaboration with Caribbean Export.
