Auto dealer Deokarran ‘Ram’ Sanasie is not being looked at as a suspect in the murder of his wife, Patricia Sanasie, who was gunned down on Monday night in front of her home at Atlantic Gardens, East Coast Demerara.
‘C’ Division Commander Assistant Commissioner Christopher Griffith said yesterday that the police are not looking at Ram Sanasie with any suspicion and so far they are still looking for the killer. Griffith said there has been no development in the case.
Sanasie was riddled with bullets around 7:30pm on Monday, just a month shy of the one year anniversary of an attempted hit on her husband, who had later accused her of being behind a plot to kill him.
Sanasie, 45, was shot point-blank, five times to her upper body after exiting her car to open her gate. She was fumbling to open the gate when a silver-grey Toyota Raum pulled up in front of her house, and a man pulled out a gun and shot her.
A post-mortem examination that was performed on Wednesday revealed that she died of multiple injuries due to gunshot wounds.
A source told Stabroek News yesterday that Sanasie’s body will be flown to the US for cremation sometime next week because her relatives are fearful about coming to Guyana.
The source also stated that she, herself, has been targeted and was receiving death threats. “I’m becoming fearful for my life. Yesterday (Wednesday) I started getting phone calls and the person is threatening to kill me,” the source said.
“Where is the law to protect women?” the source asked, while noting that all of Sanasie’s children were residing overseas and the youngest had returned a few months ago after her mother became fearful for her life. “That child came back to protect her mother and she had to watch her die. She has to live with that for the rest of her life.”
A year ago, Deokarran Sanasie was shot several times about his body while drinking in the vicinity of his auto sales business at Fourth and Light streets, Alberttown. He was rushed to a private city hospital, where he was treated for gunshot wounds. He later expressed concerns for his safety and went into hiding.
His wife and her brother were subsequently held in connection with the shooting. However, Patricia Sanasie had denied having any involvement in the attempted hit on her husband.
It was that incident which caused the couple to separate, a source had told Stabroek News, while adding that money had also soured their relationship.
The source had also indicated that Patricia Sanasie had become so fearful for her life that she had started to plan to migrate.
