Justice Maureen Rajnauth-Lee has been identified by the 11-member Regional Judicial and Legal Services Commission for appointment to the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ).
Justice Rajnauth-Lee, who is expected to assume duty at the CCJ in April, was selected from among applicants from the Caribbean, North America and Eastern Europe, a statement from the CCJ said yesterday.
Judges appointed to the CCJ are evaluated on the basis of wide-ranging criteria that include experience, high moral character, intellectual and analytical ability, sound judgment, integrity and an understanding of people and society, the statement added.
Justice Rajnauth-Lee, a Trinidad and Tobago national and a Justice of Appeal of the Judiciary of Trinidad and Tobago, was admitted to the bar in 1980.
She was appointed a Judge of the High Court of Trinidad and Tobago with effect from September 1st, 2001 and she was elevated to the Court of Appeal in 2012.
She is currently a member of the Inter-national Association of Women Judges. She was a member of the Steering Committee and now serves as Vice-President of the Caribbean Association of Women Judges. She is also Vice-President of the Trinidad and Tobago Association of Women Judges and a member of the Carib-bean Association of Judicial Officers.
