Susan Mariah Young pleaded guilty to the charge of exporting birds without permission when it was read to her at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

It is alleged that on January 16, at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), without permission, Young attempted to export 27 Chestnut-bellied seed finches, commonly known as ‘Towa Towa’ birds.

When asked by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry if she had anything to say before sentencing, Young said she accepted that she did the crime.

The unrepresented Young was fined $100,000 with an alternative of three months in jail if she fails to pay the fine. She was also disqualified for obtaining an export licence for two years.
