Tough people

With much of Guyana undeveloped, and not even fully explored, the conditions of daily living in some of the country, particularly the interior, have produced some very tough individuals, with both the physical and mental strength to overcome adversity.

GTTA preparing for Caribbean Cadet/Junior tournaments in Dominican Republic

The Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) will stage tournaments for Cadets 15-years-and-under and juniors 18-years-and-under On February 1 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall from 9 am following which the GTTA will meet to shortlist players to continue preparing for the Caribbean Cadet/Junior Table Tennis Tournament scheduled for April in the Dominican Republic.

A contradictory statement from the Council of Ministers

Dear Editor, Perhaps reeling under the intense glare of the brightening international spotlight, Guyana’s Foreign Minister, Ms Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, tried to make good on her faux pas about the Commonwealth Secretary General denying the British High Commissioner’s remarks that the organization is considering sanctions against Guyana, by now assuring the Caricom Council of Ministers that general elections in Guyana are “imminent” – whatever that means to her and the PPP regime.

Undiplomatic norms

Discretion, tact and subtlety are not characteristics by which the PPP is normally distinguished, and so it came as no particular surprise last week when they went trampling diplomatic niceties underfoot to deliver yet another round of invective against representatives of foreign missions here.
