A Palmyra, East Canje, Berbice man will be sentenced on Friday after admitting to committing a break and enter and larceny, while two brothers he implicated have denied any involvement in the crime.
The three men were all remanded to prison yesterday by Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus at the Sisters Magistrate’s Court.
Clifton Ramsarran along with brothers Ravin Samaroo, 40, also called ‘Pony,’ and Alvin Samaroo, 36, all of Palmyra, are accused of breaking and entering the home of Shirley Chesney, at Palmyra on January 17.
The men are accused of stealing items worth $505,000, in total, including a quantity of jewellery, beds sheets and electronics.
Police Prosecutor Ser-geant Phillip Sherriff told the court that the stolen items were recovered at an unoccupied plot of land at Palmyra. He added that after being arrested, Ramsarran was interrogated and provided information on the Samaroo brothers. They were later arrested.
Ramsarran pleaded guilty to the charge. He, however, also told the court that he was beaten during the interrogation and was forced to reveal the names of the brothers.
Ramsarran has been remanded by Magistrate Isaacs-Marcus until Friday, when he would be sentenced at the New Amster-dam Magistrate’s court.
The Samaroo brothers entered not guilty pleas and told the court that they were unaware of any items found on the unoccupied land. The brothers were then placed on $75,000 bail each but they were remanded after they were unable to post bail.
