A man who impersonated a police detective was arrested in Queen’s College compound yesterday after he approached several students and demanded that they hand over any cellular phones they had to him, as they were banned and he was there to seize them.
Debbie (only name given), a cleaner at Queen’s College, told Stabroek News that she observed the strange man asking a student for his phone.
The student, who was suspicious of the impersonator, called his parents and also alerted teachers. As a result, the conman was apprehended by the school’s security guard and subsequently taken into police custody.
Debbie said that when he was caught, the man pleaded for sympathy.
“If you see he, well dressed, fancy tie and everything, plus he had on fancy shoes,” another employee of QC related.
A teacher told this publication the man was placed in custody at the Alberttown Police Station.
