Clive Lloyd’s expectations that Jason Holder will make an effective 50 overs one day captain and player is just an illusion. The recent mauling by South Africa with him at the helm does not augur well for the West Indies in the upcoming World Cup. Holder was at sea with his captaincy bowling at an average 129 mph which was very timid for a man with his height. His lack of speed is a major problem. I don’t foresee him being a force to be reckoned with unless there is a vast improvement in his speed and guile, of which I am not too optimistic.
I totally agree with Sean Devers that Clive must be following orders or just suffering from old age. How Clive Lloyd can justify comments that Bravo and Pollard cannot merit a place on the World Cup squad leaves me bewildered. One of the key elements of 50 overs cricket is fielding and catching; I want Clive to name two other players in his squad who can match Bravo and Pollard in fielding and catching.
The World Cup is no place to blood new players, this is the stage for the big boys – I mean established players.
His claim that these players were not victimized is totally untrue.
Orin Davidson’s belief that “Clive knows best” means the he does not know better; as for Cosmos Hamilton, he is too sentimentally attached to Clive to offer any valid opinion. Both seem to be suffering from a disease called ‘lloyditis’ of which one of the symptoms is ‘remembering your best players.’
I would like to hear from my good friend and former fellow player Colin Croft on this issue.
