A seaman was remanded to prison yesterday, after he was nabbed at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport allegedly with over 12 kilos of cocaine in his bags.
According to Prosecutor Stephen Telford, Alex Macey was seen acting suspiciously when a Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) officer approached him and searched his suitcase. The officer allegedly discovered 12.256 kilogrammes of cocaine in Macey’s ‘Bob Marley’ bags.
Macey was not required to plead.
Telford told Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry the investigations are continuing. He also said he did not believe bail should be granted since Macy has a ten-year visa and travels to the United States often.
Macey was subsequently remanded to prison until February 9.
