A Linden resident who denied four counts of break and enter and larceny was on Friday remanded to prison after he appeared in a city court.
Marlon DeFreitas also known as ‘Kitchen Kitten’ or ‘One Nattie’ pleaded not guilty to five charges read to him by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine- Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Between September 14 and 18, 2014 at Wismar, Linden, DeFreitas allegedly broke and entered the dwelling of Michelle Jagnandan and stole a quantity of valuables amounting to $212,000.
On 8 July, 2014, at Wismar, Linden he allegedly broke and entered the dwelling of Quincy Forde and stole a quantity of valuables also amounting to $80,000.
Again between June 8 and 9, 2014, at Mackenzie, Linden, he reportedly broke and entered the business place of Sherry Fraser and stole a quantity of groceries and valuables, totalling $215,000.
Between October 9 and 11, 2014 at Amelia Ward, Linden, it was alleged that DeFreitas broke and entered the dwelling of Ronette Albert and stole a quantity of items amounting to $315,000.
Then on August 22, 2014 at Wismar, Linden, the accused allegedly stole from the person of Sushi Small one cellular phone valued $70,000.
Police Prosecutor Michael Grant objected to bail citing the nature, gravity and prevalence of the offence, the penalty it attracts and that police at Linden are currently investigating other matters in relation to DeFreitas. Grant added if bail is granted there is a likelihood that he will not return for trial since he was on the run from police since the first offence and was only caught and arrested on Tuesday last.
Bail was refused and the matter was adjourned to January 27, at the Linden Magistrate’s Court.
