A man was remanded to prison on Friday after being charged with the theft of a stallion, while the man who claimed he bought the animal from him was released on bail.
The charge against Danny Narine, of Second Street, Agricola, East Bank Demerara and Charles Damian Romeo, of Lot 231 Kaneville, stated that between December 24 and December 25, 2014, at Lamaha and Cowan streets, Georgetown, they stole a stallion valued $180,000, belonging to Randy Ramdeo.
They both pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to them by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
Police Prosecutor Michael Grant said on December 24, Ramdeo secured his horse by rope and left it to graze. When he returned the next day, he discovered the horse missing. He subsequently reported the disappearance and, acting on information received, the police later found the stallion in Romeo’s possession. He claimed Narine sold the horse to him.
Grant objected to bail, while noting that Narine was known to the court and was even convicted before for a similar offence. However, Narine, from the docks, denied the claim.
Nonetheless, the magistrate remanded Narine until Monday, while Romeo was granted his release on $50,000 bail.
