As he and an accomplice attempted to rob a pump attendant of the Choke Rubis, LBI Gas Station, a gun-toting bandit was last night shot dead by the proprietor while his accomplice made good his escape.
The dead man was identified only as Marvin known as Shaka of Plaisance, East Coast Demerara.
Stabroek News understands that the two robbers rode into the service station shortly after 8pm and Marvin snatched the cash bag from a female pump attendant.
Unaware that the owner, who is a licensed firearm holder was overseeing his business, the men attempted to escape. However they were quickly confronted by the businessman who opened fire hitting Marvin in the stomach.
He jumped on his CG motorcycle with his friend in tow and rode off. His injuries seemed to be severe as he was found on the Railway Embankment, clad only in his boxer shorts with his shirt used to form a bandage around his wound.
Residents and police combed LBI and its environs in search of the second man as they believed that he too was injured. However up to press time he was not found.
Police returned the emptied money bag to the proprietor. It was unclear how much money was inside as the attendant had not balanced sales for the evening.
Meanwhile, another bandit was shot in the buttocks by a police during a foiled robbery at the Popeye’s Vlissengen Road fast food outlet also around 8pm.
He is currently under arrest at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
This newspaper was told that he and two armed accomplices entered the restaurant and demanded cash. However a policeman who was at the time a patron of the establishment raised an alarm and the men opened fire as they tried escaping. However one was shot while the other two escaped.
Police investigations are continuing.
The mother of the dead man’s children wept as his body was being taken to the GPHC morgue last night.
