A police search which unearthed a car allegedly used in a series of robberies and a police uniform, in the possession of two men, led to their arrest; they faced charges in connection with the find on Friday.
Delon Small, 33, pleaded not guilty to the charge that on January 20, at Roxanne Burnham Gar-dens he had unlawful possession of an AT212 motor car suspected to be stolen or unlawfully obtained. Quacy Small, 30, was charged with having in his possession a blue police regulation shirt, on the same day at the same address. Small denied the charge after it was read by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Attorney Adrian Thompson represented the duo. He pleaded for reasonable bail to be granted for his clients while arguing that the men were innocent of the charges levelled against them.
Thompson said the car was found in Delon Small’s yard because someone had parked it there and promised to return for it.
Additionally, the attorney questioned why an identification parade was not held nor fingerprint samples tested to verify the police’s case.
Thompson further submitted that the defendant did not claim ownership of the car and does not pose a flight risk, while noting that Delon Small had no previous involvement in any criminal activity.
The police shirt that was discovered in the search, the attorney said, was left there by a rank who lives a short distance away and normally irons his uniform at the residence.
Prosecutor Michael Grant objected to bail for Delon Small stating that the police had received information that the said car was used in the commission of a series of robberies, while noting that investigations in the matter are still ongoing and more charges are likely to be made against the defendant.
The prosecutor also pointed out that fingerprint samples were taken from the car and these were in the process of verification.
No objection to bail was made for Quincy Small which was granted in the sum of $50,000. Delon Small was remanded to prison until January 30, when both men will again appear in court.
