Clifton Ramsarran who on Tuesday last, pleaded guilty to a break and enter charge, was sentenced to three years imprisonment by Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs Marcus in the New Amsterdam Magistrate Court on Friday.
Ramsarran of Palmyra, East Canje, Berbice admitted to committing the crime after being charged in the Sisters Magistrate’s Court.
Brothers Ravin Samaroo, 40, also called ‘Pony,’ and Alvin Samaroo, 36, both of Palmyra, are accused of breaking and entering the home of Shirley Chesney, at Palmyra on January 17. However, they entered a not guilty plea after the charge was read to them.
The men are accused of stealing items worth $505,000, in total, including a quantity of jewellery, bed sheets and electronics.
Prosecutor Phillip Sherriff told the court that the stolen items were recovered at an unoccupied plot of land at Palmyra. He added that after being arrested, Ramsarran was interrogated and provided information on the Samaroo brothers. They were later arrested. The Samaroo brothers were placed on $75,000 bail each but they were remanded after they were unable to post bail.
