A father and son were on Friday each placed on $30,000 bail when they appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court facing a malicious wounding charge.
Aleem Saul and Morten Saul both denied that on December 24, at Guyhoc Squatting Area they maliciously wounded Mark Campbell.
Prosecutor Michael Grant said that on the day in question, an argument ensued between Morten Saul and the defendant which led to Campbell being wounded.
However, in defence, Morten told the court that Campbell was in the habit of threatening him and his wife for no reason. “He live three houses away from me, and he is very threatful, every time he threatening me and meh wife,” Saul stated before adding that he was trying to make peace with Campbell who was in his yard armed with a cutlass and attacking his son. “Dis young man and he had a problem and he run in my yard with a cutlass and I jus went and try to take away the weapon from him and he hand get a cut,” he claimed.
Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry then set bail at $50,000 but subsequently reduced it to $30,000 after the defendants begged the court to reduce the amount since they could not produce that much.
The matter was transferred to Court 6 and adjourned to February 9.
