A youth was on Friday found guilty of holding a man at knife-point and robbing him of his cell phone.
City magistrate Judy Latchman, who presided over the trial of Dolwyn Greene, 18, has, however, deferred sentencing to February 13, to facilitate the presentation of a probation report, which defence counsel Clive Forde requested.
Greene was convicted for robbery following an attack on April 5, 2014 at Freeman Street, East La Penitence. It was alleged that, being with another and armed with a knife, he robbed Dellon David of an Apple iPhone, valued $90,000.
In handing down her ruling, Magistrate Latchman noted that the prosecution had successfully proven its case against Greene beyond a reasonable doubt and that all the elements of the offence had been proven.
The magistrate said from the evidence led in the case, it was established that Greene placed the complainant in fear when he held him at knife-point.
She said too that Greene relieved David of his cell phone, with the intention of permanently depriving him of the item.
The police’s case is that on the day of the attack, at about 9pm, Greene and another approached David and placed a knife to his neck before removing his cell phone from his pants pocket.
Greene, of Lot 112 Freeman, Street East La Penitence, was later arrested and charged, while his alleged accomplice remains at large.
His attorney begged the court for a probation report before sentencing after noting that his client was a first-time offender.
Meanwhile, he has been remanded to prison pending sentencing.
The case was successfully prosecuted by Inspector Shellon Daniels.
