A money-changer was yesterday morning shot and robbed by two men of $800,000 and is now a patient of the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).
Police said in a statement that at about 10 minutes after midnight yesterday, Riburn Fraser, 48, of Manatee Place, South Ruimveldt, was about to enter his residence when he was attacked by two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun. The man shot Fraser about his body and took away a total of $800,000 along with a quantity of foreign currency and documents from him and a female friend and escaped, the statement said.
Fraser was admitted to the GPH for medical treatment.
When Stabroek News visited Fraser’s residence, it was shut tight but dried blood was seen on the bridge. A resident told this newspaper that she heard a “funny noise” but did not realise it was a gunshot. The resident recalled seeing a bloodied shirt on the bridge along with blood.
“It had to be nuff blood because the shirt was really bloody,” the resident said adding that the female companion with whom the man lives was later observed removing the shirt.
It was revealed that Fraser is a money-changer on America Street and he had complained about being followed.
