No election of office bearers as GCB holds AGM

The Guyana Cricket Board went ahead and staged their Annual General Meeting yesterday but there was no election of office bearers.

The media was not allowed to attend yesterday’s meeting held upstairs of the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) Pavilion, but attended a press briefing held afterwards.

The meeting was attended by delegates from the Essequibo and Demerara Cricket boards while the Berbice Cricket Board was absent.

President of the GCB Drubahadur said yesterday that there was a quorum.

“Yes. At least 17 persons,” he told Stabroek Sports in an invited comment.

Asked how many members were required to form a quorum Bahadur said that he was unsure as according to the Cricket Administration Act either 14 or 15 persons.

“I’m as confused as you are. The Cricket Bill is in force which covers the constitutions of the GCB and the county boards and one part is saying 14 and one part is saying 15.

Drubahadur said to the best of his knowledge there were nine delegates from the ECB and eight from the DCB.

Drubahadur said the recent CAB which was signed into law last year, clearly states that at the October Ordinary General Meeting of the GCB nominations for the various posts of the GCB must be done and was done.

“We followed suit and as only one set of persons were nominated holding elections yesterday did not make any sense,” he added.

Those nominated for posts at last October’s OGM were Drubahadur, President, Fizul Bacchus (Vice-president), Anand Sanasie (Secretary), Virendra Chintamanie (Ass. Secretary), Anand Kalladeen (Treasurer), Rajendra Singh (Marketing Manager), Colin Europe (Competitions Chairman), Rayon Griffith, chairman of national selectors and Nazimul Drepaul, junior selector.

Drubahadur said at yesterday’s meeting they discussed reports for the various county board along with the audited financial report for the year ending 30th November 2014.
