The Saraswati Vidya Niketan (SVN) High school has completed the first phase of its Aryabhatta Science Centre, a three-storey building, measuring 5,600 square feet per floor, which will host classrooms and an observatory.
According to a SVN press release, the second phase will entail the construction of walls and installation of windows. It is expected to incorporate prefabricated material from India as a part of the process with an anticipated 2016 deadline.
The entire building, the report said, will be solar powered with the roof being designed with an observatory.
Principal Swami Aksharananda said the institution is currently the only one outside Georgetown preparing students for the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination and also boasts a 100% and 94% pass rate in Physics and Chemistry at the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate exams.
With the completion of the building, the institution expects to have an increase in its student body which currently has 515 members, 320 of whom are girls.
The entire project, Aksharananda said was funded through public donations most of which came from the United States and Canada.
Other donations of cash and kind were also received from the local business community for which Aksharananda expressed extreme gratitude.
