The Park Vue Hotel was relaunched under new management on Friday, just over a year after it was officially commissioned.
Fazil Mirza, who is also the proprietor of the Windies Sports Bar in Canada, has been the new owner of the hotel since January 1st, after acquiring it from the previous owners and his friends, United States-based Guyanese Robin and Sheron Persaud.
Mirza said he pursued the venture because he has a lot of confidence in Guyana’s economy.
The relaunch of the hotel was held at its poolside on Friday evening and among those present were Prime Minister Sam Hinds, his wife Yvonne Hinds, Minister of Tourism Irfaan Ali, while a number of local acts performed, such as Jumo Primo, Young Bill Rogers and Sammy Baksh. A few costumes, which were designed by Olympia Small–Sonaram, were also on display for the audience in order to give a glimpse of the activities planned.
The 32-room hotel, with restaurants, a pool and bar among other facilities, was established to boost Guyana’s tourism sector.
Mirza, who has about 15 years’ experience in the hospitality industry, told Stabroek News that after just three weeks in charge, he already had his eyes on a lot of improvements, including expanding the bar area and starting outside grilling.
Mirza also mentioned plans to focus on customer service, which he said is a problem in Guyana.
He also plans to use the upcoming Mashramani celebrations to promote the hotel. “There could be no better time to promote Park Vue other than around Mashramani,” he said, while noting that during the Mash weekend the hotel has a series of events planned as part of its “Mash Up the Bank” activities.
