The Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF) Normalization Committee yesterday expressed condolences on the passing of former GFF treasurer Aubrey Henry.
Henry, a former long-serving member of the federation, passed away in the United States of America on Monday.
At the time of his passing he was an executive of the Guyana National Women’s Football Association.
“The Chairman and members of the FIFA-appointed Normalization Committee (NC) were saddened to learn of the passing of Mr. Aubrey Henry, former Treasurer of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) and the Kashif and Shanghai Organization,” a press release from the NC stated.
“During our interactions with Mr. Henry, we always found him to be humble, well-spoken, knowledgeable and a calming influence in what can sometimes can be a chaotic environment. He was always willing to lend his expertise for the benefit and development of football in Guyana,” the release added.
According to the NC, Guyana’s football has lost a valuable asset.
“The local football fraternity has indeed lost a valuable asset. The Chairman and members of the NC wish to extend sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Aubrey Henry and hope that those who he has taught and influenced will continue to serve football with equal dedication, pride and humility.”
Meanwhile the Kashif and Shanghai Organisation also expressed condolences on Henry’s passing.
“We are left in a state of profound shock. We remember Aubrey as a mild-mannered man, a gentleman, a warm and sensitive human being and a man who served sports, particularly football, in several capacities, both at the level of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) and otherwise,” stated a release from the K& S Organisation.
“We will particularly remember and cherish those years that he spent as part of the inner circle of the Kashif & Shanghai Organization, a group which, in the final analysis, always seemed to be challenged with the most demanding tasks associated with the full and final execution of the event. “During some of those difficult, sometimes stormy meetings that had become part of the Kashif & Shanghai tradition, Aubrey never failed to bring a mediating influence on conflict and disagreement. We will miss and remember him. “To his wife and children Aubrey’s death is bound to be a heavy and irreplaceable loss. In this regard we, the Kashif and Shanghai Organization, extend our profoundest sympathy, first, to those who were closest to him and to all those others whose lives that he touched during his time on this earth.”
Stabroek News would also like to express condolences to the family and friends of the late football stalwart.
