An electrician was seriously injured yesterday in an explosion at the Rusal-owned Bauxite Company of Guyana Inc (BCGI) mining site in Kwakwani.
Officials are yet to determine the cause of the explosion, which occurred early yesterday morning and left electrician Alan Benn injured. He was the only person hurt.
Region 10 Chairman Sharma Solomon said it took an emergency crew almost an hour to get to where Benn was and he was subsequently taken to the Kwakwani hospital, where he is being treated.
Solomon noted that there are concerns about the bauxite company operating at Kurubuku, Kwakwani without having the mine properly commissioned. He said further that there were also issues of environmental concern and safety for workers.
