The Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) has commenced preparations for the Pan Am Games in Canada and the Youth Commonwealth Games in Samoa. These and other details were disclosed by president of the Association, K. Juman Yassin when he rolled out some of the top priorities on the GOA’s agenda yesterday.
According to Yassin, plans are afoot for our local sportsmen and women to compete at an optimum at the Pan Am Games scheduled for Toronto, Canada in July and the Youth Commonwealth Games in September
The GOA head also disclosed that Ivor O’Brien and Dr. Karen Pilgrim were selected to be the Chef de Missions of the respective sojourns.
Yassin further added that Garfield Wiltshire has been tapped to be the Chef de Mission of next year’s Olympic Games in neighbouring Brazil.
He also pointed out that “This year we will also be moving ahead with the construction of our building.”
Yassin added that he has “appointed a committee headed by Charles Corbin. Wiltshire and Hector Edwards to look and talk to all the associations to pinpoint their athletes senior and junior to see how we can help.”
Another plan for the year includes the construction of the Michael Parris Gym. Yassin said that the GOA is also “waiting on the necessary information to complete the list of names for the Olympic Solidarity Scholarship.
