Persistent showers washed out day two of the Guyana Jaguars three-day practice match at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground (GCC) yesterday.
The first day was also abandoned without a ball being bowled.
The Guyana team is preparing for the resumption of the Professional Cricket League (PCL) Regional four-day tournament which resumes on Friday.
According to Assistant Coach and Jaguars Manager Rayon Griffith, the match will be played today and tomorrow (Sunday) if the weather permits while the LBI cricket indoor facility could be utilized for the next few days.
The three-day match was expected to help the Jaguars transition back into Test cricket mode following the conclusion of the National General Insurance Corporation (Nagico) Regional Super50 one day tournament.
The Guyana Jaguars reached the final but failed to bring home the title after losing by 135 runs in a one-sided final against Trinidad & Tobago.
With the return of West Indies Test and ODI left-handers Leon Johnson and Narsingh Deonarine along with Assad Fudadin’s impending return following a broken finger which he sustained during a West Indies training session in South Africa and Shivnarine Chanderpaul’s invaluable presence in the side, Guyana is expected to field a full strength squad for the remainder of the competition.
Add the availably of Wes Indies Under-19 youngsters Shimron Hetmyer, Tagenarine Chanderpaul and all-round sensation Kemo Paul who have been in decent form, and the Jaguars have young, bountiful options to choose from should they decide to make significant changes to the team.
The practice match will feature two teams being formed from the likes of; Trevon Griffith, Devendra Bishoo ,Veerasammy Permaul, Christopher Barnwell, Anthony Bramble, Ronsford Beaton, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Keon Joseph, Raymon Reifer, Rajendra Chandrika, Paul Wintz, Vishaul Singh, Raun Johnson, Anthony Adams, Chanderpaul Hemraj, Amir Khan, Steven Sankar, Gudakesh Motie, Kevon Boodie, Ricardo Adams, Jason Sinclair, Kemol Savory, Krisendat Ramoo, Shemroy Barrington, Kandasammy Surujnarine, Robin Bacchus, Chanderpaul, Hetmyer and Paul.
