The 2015 cycling calendar of events continues today with a 40-mile race on the open roads of West Demerara.
Sponsored by the National Sports Commission as part of their Mashramani programme, the Hassan Mohamed organized fixture is scheduled to attract the premier wheelsmen on the local circuit.
As customary, today’s event will pedal off from the Demerara Harbour Bridge from 08:00hrs, proceed to Bushy Park and return to the point of origin for the finish.
National riders Alanzo Greaves, Marlon Williams, Michael Anthony and Paul DeNobrega all in top form will look to unseat defending champion, Orville Hinds.
Hinds, sped off with the top honours last year in a brisk one hour, 39 minutes and 59 seconds.
The Team Evolution standout will be looking to successfully defend his title in the third event of the season and draw even with his club mates, Williams and Anthony.
Williams won the season opener in the National Park Saturday while Anthony won the second race of the season one day later in Berbice.
Greaves, meanwhile, placed second in both events and will surely be gunning for the top podium come tomorrow.
An entertaining day of racing in envisioned.
Notes: The top six finishers in the event will receive prizes. Other category winners last year were: Rawle Leal (Junior), Robin Persaud (Veteran) and Richard Charles (Mountain Bike). (Emmerson Campbell)
