Dear Editor,
Because my flight with Dynamic Airways into JFK was recently delayed twice, I was forced to buy a one-way ticket with Caribbean Airlines to JFK last Wednesday. Dynamic told me that they would keep my one-way for a voucher for future travel.
I am beginning to hear the horror stories about this airline, with almost every one of its flights being delayed or affected. It shows that it’s not until you deal with airlines personally, that you get a real taste of them and their workings. I was so happy when I purchased a US$483 ticket to NY, but I paid the ultimate price (pun intended) for cheapness, as we say.
This airline did not fly on the said day (Tuesday, Jan 27) I was supposed to leave Timehri, due to the blizzard, but I understood that. However, the following day (when I was supposed to fly), Roraima Airways called me informing me that the flight was further delayed to Saturday. I asked the reason why and they said no flights are being allowed to leave Terminal 1 (one of the low class, small terminals in JFK). I found out that the blizzard was over and Caribbean Airlines was flying both ways, so I had to purchase a $74,000 one-way ticket because I needed to travel urgently since my work leave was quickly finishing.
I had to delve into my pocket for additional money, even though I had purchased a US$483 return ticket with that troubled airline, Dynamic. To date, I have not received any update on the one-way voucher for travel which an employee of Travel Span, said she would issue to me. I hope I won’t have to take legal action.
Now I am worried about having to leave NY on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 on the 01:00 hr flight to Timehri, because I am afraid that flight would be delayed also. The horror story continues. Pandit Suresh Sugrim booked a flight, too, with Dynamic and it was supposed to leave last Friday night at 01:00 hr. The flight did not leave until 04:00 hrs, and nobody said anything to the passengers.
He reported to me the unprofessional conduct of the air hostesses and how they served one freezing cold muffin with a bit of fruit during the entire leg of the flight. And the passengers were told that there was no coffee.
It’s also a shame that Guyanese still have to deplane in Piarco Airport and go through more security scans before moving on to JFK. I had to deplane in Trinidad with Caribbean Airlines and spend nearly two hours at Piarco waiting for the continued leg of my journey, which was also delayed by half hour due to late arrival of the flight crew. Can you believe this? So Caribbean Airlines is no better!
When can Guyanese be treated with the respect we deserve when travelling? When can Guyana finally have a reliable, cost-efficient airline that won’t sell cheap tickets to rip travellers off?
I wish someone had done a study on the delay and cancellation rates of each Dynamic Airways flight. I am awaiting my one-way travel voucher. I would also welcome a refund of my one-way ticket. I am never flying with them again since it turns out that Dynamic Airways is not so dynamic.
Yours faithfully,
Leon Suseran
