A fisherman is currently hospitalised at the George-town Public Hospital (GPH) after a walk on the road ended with a speeding car hitting him.
Derick Mohamed, 24, was allegedly hit by a drunk driver,who has since gone into hiding.
He is nursing a broken right arm as well as severe injuries to his back and feet, Anand Mohamed, his brother, told Stabroek News.
The accident occurred on January 25 at a lonely junction at Unity, East Coast Demerara and nobody from the neighbourhood was aware of what transpired. It was not until the next morning that relatives, who live in close proximity, discovered the injured Mohamed lying on the road. He was subsequently rushed to the hospital.
Mohamed is unable to move his legs, his brother stated.
Stabroek News was also told that after the driver hit Mohamed, he removed the number plates from the car and escaped. However, the police have taken possession of the car, while investigations are continuing.
