Days after being charged with armed robbery, Nykose Gittens on Monday found himself back before a city court charged with the fatal shooting of money changer Wendell Liverpool during an armed attack last year.
Gittens, 20, of Laing Avenue, was not required to plead to the murder charge that was read by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
According to the charge, between June 20 and June 23, 2014, Gittens murdered Liverpool in furtherance of a robbery.
Gittens was remanded to prison until February 11, when the matter will be called before Magistrate Judy Latchman.
Liverpool, 44, of Lot 453 West Ruimveldt Housing Scheme, was shot and robbed by gunmen at West Ruimveldt on June 20, last year. He succumbed to multiple gunshot injuries at the Georgetown Hospital three days after.
According to his mother Bernice, Liverpool was out on the West Ruimveldt main road drinking with his brother and some friends when the attack occurred.
She was told three young men on motorcycles rode up and attacked him. She said the men rode away with his money and his jewellery after her son fell to the ground.
Gittens was remanded to prison last week after being charged with robbing a man of a quantity of gold jewellery and cash, amounting to a total value of $750,000.
