One man died and two other persons were injured following an accident at Bath, West Coast Berbice on Monday.
Dead is Randy Cummings, 19 years of age from No. 5 Village WCB and the two injured are Keona Thom 28, and Quincy Bailey 32, both from Hopetown village West Coast Berbice.
According to a police source, the accident occurred on the Bath public road, Mahaicony at approximately 7.05 pm when motor car PRR7426 collided with a coconut tree in an attempt to overtake another vehicle while returning from the airport.
The source also alleged, Bailey, the driver of the vehicle was speeding at the time when he lost control.
Cummings was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital on Monday morning. Bailey and Thom both of whom were transported to the Mahaicony Hospital sustained injuries.
Stabroek News learnt both Thom and Bailey were later released bearing injuries of a dislocated shoulder and fractured rib respectively.
According to Thom’s mother, her daughter was still experiencing severe pain in her stomach area after being released from the hospital.
The police source said investigations are currently being conducted after which charges are expected to be laid. The lawman also said they are in the process of taking statements.
