CASTRIES, St. Lucia, CMC- St.Vincent and the Grenadines have been chosen to host the first ever Windward Islands Football Under-14 tournaments for boys and girls.
Decision was reached during a meeting of three of the four presidents of national football associations from the sub-region held at Rex Resorts in St. Lucia over the weekend.
The Windward Islands Football Association (WIFA) Under 14 girls competition has been scheduled for December in Kingstown while the Under14 boys tournament is expected to take place around June next year.
“If we really want to see a tree grow we cannot just plant. We must nurture it. So we want to capture the talent at an earlier age,” said Chenny Joseph, the president of the Grenada Football Association (GFA).
“We have been losing some of kids just to education and many of them we believe can be even smarter by introducing them to sport to balance with the education”.
St. Lucia Football Association (SLFA) President, Lyndon Cooper and the Dominica Football Association (DFA) president Glen Etienne also attended the meeting which unveiled WIFA’s new logo.
The president of the St.Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation (SVGFF) who is also the president of WIFA, Venold Coombs, did not attend.
