Canadian High Commissioner to Guyana Dr. Nicole Giles and United States Charge d’Affaires Bryan Hunt yesterday met with representatives of A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) on elections preparations and other matters.
A release from APNU said that the meeting was held at the Office of the Leader of the Opposition, Hadfield Street and it was part of a series of consultations with political parties and various stakeholders in the run-up to the May 11, 2015 General and Regional Elections.
APNU’s team was led by the Leader of the Opposition, David Granger and the main focus was preparations for the elections and the concerns of the American, British and Canadians regarding free and fair elections in Guyana.
APNU said that some the concerns included, equitable access to the media (free and paid), campaign financing and a code of conduct for parties contesting the elections.
The release said that Granger and his team briefed the diplomats on APNU’s preparedness for the upcoming elections and shared many of the Partnership’s concerns as they relate to the conduct of the elections in Guyana.
Granger was accompanied to the meeting by APNU General Secretary Joseph Harmon, Shadow Minister for Local and Regional Development Ronald Bulkan and APNU Director of Communications Mark Archer.
