A man was yesterday sentenced in his absence to two years in prison for trafficking two grammes of cocaine.
Darren Schultz was found guilty of the offence by Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the conclusion of a trial.
The charge against the man was that on December 17, last, he had in his possession two grammes of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
Schultz had denied the charge at his arraignment.
He was subsequently granted bail but failed to return to court after attending two hearings.
At Schultz’s last hearing at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, he was granted an adjournment to retain legal counsel. That was the last the court saw of him.
The court conducted an ex parte trial, which ended yesterday, after which it proceeded to sentence Schultz in his absence.
Magistrate Azore informed that Schultz was found guilty of the charge and would be sentenced to two years behind bars. Additionally, he was ordered to pay a fine of $30,000.
The case was prosecuted by Corporal Simone Payne.
