DCC, MSC to clash in GCA/Hadi’s first division tourney

Cricket lovers are in for a treat this weekend with 10 scheduled Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) matches including a clash between Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) and Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) today in the GCA/Hadi’s World Incorporated First Division Two-Day Competition set for the MSC ground at Thomas Lands.

DCC with 132 points from seven games will take on MSC with 118 points from six matches in what is expected to be a very competitive encounter. Several former and current national players will be doing battle for the tourney’s frontrunners, including former national youth player Kellon Carmichael who will skipper the MSC side and national player Trevor Griffith who will lead DCC.

MSC will rely heavily on prolific opener Shemroy Barrington to set a mammoth total, though his fellow opening partner Nicosie Barker is expected to play a major role. Vishal Narayan, Delvon McEwan and Carmichael will bat in the middle for the host. Leg spinner Steven Sankar will spearhead their bowling while the in-form left arm speedster Mark Cumberbatch will provide his support along with Shaquille Moseley and Cordell Mars.

Paul is then expected to return with the new ball, sharing it with another young talented prospect, Dexter George.

The winner of this match is expected to be the eventual winner of the tournament since both teams are well ahead of the other teams. Both teams are also without their marquee players. For MSC, Steven Jacobs will be out due to injury while DCC’s Christopher Barnwell is currently on national duty.

In the other first division match, host Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) will take on Police Sports Club (PSC). Both matches are scheduled to start at 9.30am on Saturday and Sunday.

In the New Building Society second division tourney, six matches will be played over the weekend. On Saturday, from 11am the Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) will host DCC while PSC host Third Class (TC).

Tomorrow four matches will be played: TSC clash with TC at GYO, PSC against Ace Warriors at PSC, St Stanislaus versus Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) at MYO and Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) host GCC.

Two matches are set for the GCA/Banks Malta Supreme U-13 tournament. From 9.30am, TSC will face Malteenoes and in the second encounter, GCC will come up against Bel Air Rubis at 1.30pm. Both matches will be played at the MYO.
