Outstanding performers of the Guyana Tennis Association (GTA)/ Trophy Stall Doubles Tournament were awarded at last Sunday’s closing ceremony at the National Racquet Centre.
Out of a total of 34 teams which registered for the tournament, five pairs managed to dominate their competitors to end as eventual champions when the curtain came down. Leyland Leacock/Nicholas Fenty won the main event, the Men’s open doubles while the mother and daughter combination, Shelly Daly-Ramdyhan/Nicola Ramdyhan were superb on their way to the top in the Ladies’ open doubles.
According to a press release, President of the GTA, Grace McCalman praised the players for their commitment and patience to properly conclude the tournament which was suspended in December due to bad weather. She reminded those gathered, doubles play forms the basis for club membership, growth and excitement.
“Also, without tennis clubs, the GTA will have no purpose, so I hope partners can establish permanence in their relationships which will help the sport to grow. Tournaments such as the Trophy Stall Doubles go a long way in creating interest at the club level and we must thank Trophy Stall for its fifth consecutive year of sponsorship”, the president said. She congratulated the winners and reported the first event for 2015 is the long awaited Inter Club Tournament which is scheduled to start during February.
Trophy Stall’s representative, Alexis Barrington thanked the GTA for supporting their business over the years, expressed her appreciation for the manner in which the sport is being conducted and looks forward to 2015 Doubles tournament.
The Closing Ceremony was attended by US Diplomat, Albert Razick who also participated in the tournament along with his son Daniel Razick.

Ladies Open Doubles winner Shelly Daly-Ramdyhan/ Nicola Ramdyhan, runner-up: Denise Barrington/Kizzy Richmond. Mixed Open Doubles: winners Leyland Leacock/Afruica Gentle, runner-up Orande Dainty/Aretta Dey. Men’s Over 35 Doubles: winners Godfrey Lowden/Omar Persaud, runner-up Albert Razick/Bo Arbogast. Novice Medley Doubles: winner Sachin Puri/Daniel Razick, runner-up Philbert Clarke/Diana Bharat.
