Two men are in custody after police recovered illegal firearms and ammunition in their possession on Friday night.
According to the police, the seizures occurred separately, one in Corentyne and the other at Zeeburg, West Coast Demerara.
The police said in a press release that at about 16:30hrs on Friday, they arrested a man at Rosehall Reef, Corentyne while conducting investigations into a report of simple larceny. According to reports, the man was searched and the police recovered an unlicensed .38 Smith and Wesson revolver in his possession.
At Zeeburg, the other man was similarly arrested after the police responded to a report of threats during a domestic violence situation. The police said that at about 18:30hrs, they arrived at the scene, conducted a search on the premises, and found an unlicensed Marlin rifle along with one .357 round and a .38 spent shell.
Investigations are ongoing, the police further said.
