The upsets continued in the Mayor’s Cup Knockout tournament as tourney heavyweights Guyana Defence Force were outflanked by Ann’s Grove 4-3 on Saturday at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground in Bourda.
On target for the East Coast of Demerara outfit were Quincy Johnson, Maxston Adams, Kevon Barry and Anil Hernandez. Scoring for the Camp Ayanganna side were Delwyn Fraser, Eon Alleyne and Terrence Lewis.
With the win, Ann’s Grove will now faceoff with Western Tigers in the quarterfinal round. Avoiding the fate of the other high profile clubs were Slingerz FC who defeated Mahaica Determinators 2-0.
Vurlon Mills and Julian Wade were on target for the Vergenoegen giants in the 28th and 59th minutes respectively. With the win, Slingerz will now lock horns with Riddim Squad.
Winner of the event will receive $1,000,000 and the championship trophy while the runners-up will pocket $300,000 and the respective title. The third and fourth positioned teams will walk away with $200,000 and $100,000 respectively and the corresponding accolade.
