Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) recorded two wins over the weekend in the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/ New Building Society (NBS) second division 40 over tournament over the weekend to maintain its winning streak.
Sunday at the Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) ground, DCC defeated Diplomats by 188 runs while on Saturday at the Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) ground, the hosts GYO lost to DCC by 83 runs.
Ronaldo Renee (62) scored his second successive half century while Malcolm Hubbard made 76 to post 289-7 in 40 overs for DCC. In-form batsman Larry Smith followed up his half century on Saturday with an attractive innings of 44. Bowling for Diplomats, S. Forde took 3-67 from eight expensive overs while R. Mohamed was economical, claiming 2-26 from his portion of eight overs.
Diplomats were dismissed for a paltry 101 in 15.4 overs in reply to DCC’s mammoth total. Only D.Paul (51) and H.Mohamed (12) reached double figures as 17 year old pacer Carlton Jacques captured 7-32 in his destructive spell.
DCC’s first win for the weekend against GYO was also a comfortable victory. Renee (61) and Smith (59) half centuries propelled DCC to 240-5 in their 40 overs while T. Liverpool’s 51 failed to take GYO across the finishing line. GYO was eventually bowled out for 157.
Clitus Johnson 4-18, Utom Munroe (3-34) and Cleon McEwan (3-22) were the main wreckers with the ball for DCC.
DCC now have four wins in as many matches and are comfortably placed to reach the semifinals. The team’s next match will be this weekend when the GCA competition continues.
