Front runners of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/ Hadi’s World Incorporated first-division, two-day competition, Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) and Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) played to a draw in their top-of-the-table encounter that ended Sunday at the MSC ground, Thomas Lands.
The match ended with DCC narrowly missing out on an outright win with young emerging all-rounder Shaquille Moseley unbeaten on 27 after batting to the close of play.
After MSC slipped to 97-5 in pursuit of the 229 needed to win the match, Moseley rescued MSC with his mature batting display.
The 17-year-old had to contend with some quality bowling from the DCC bowlers comprising of national pacers Paul Wintz and Trevon Garraway, Dexter George and Keanu Harry who captured four and three wickets respectively. Earlier, from an overnight score of 122, MSC were dismissed for 133 less than 25 minutes into the day’s play. Skipper Kelon Carmichael carried his overnight 33 to 41 before being dismissed while Wintz was very effective to claim four wickets.
DCC made 177 all out in their second turn at the crease. Tevin Imlach (34) and Trevon Griffith (24) were the main contributors. Moseley showed consistency with the ball by picking up three wickets to follow up his maiden five-wicket haul at this level which he claimed in the first innings. Orin Forde also took three wickets for MSC.
On the first day of the match, Griffith made 72 to guide DCC to 185 all out while Moseley and Delon Dalrymple picked up eight wickets between them.
The draw help DCC extend its lead on the points standings, however, they will have to await the outcome of MSC’s final round match.
