The Guyana Floodlight Softball Cricket Association’s (GFSCA) Mashramani softball competition will take place on February 21 at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground, Lance Gibbs Street, Queenstown.
According to a press release from the GFSCA, the tournament will be a day/night one held in observance of the country celebrating 45 years as a Cooperative Republic.
Matches will commence at 2:00pm and will conclude at 11:30pm.
Some 14 teams will be allowed to participate in the tournament eight will play in the Open category (male of any age) and six teams will play in the Masters category (40 years and over).
The Male Open tournament will be a five overs a side affair while the Masters will contested over 10 overs.
According to the release, matches will be played on two pitches simultaneously and entrance fee for the Open category is $15,000 and the Masters $20,000.
The winner of each category will receive $50,000 and the runner-ups $15,000 each.
The yellow Floodlight ball will be used. Teams can purchase it at Mike’s Pharmacy on Sheriff Street. Teams who are interested can call GFSCA organiser Wayne Jones at 650-1790 or 685-6908.
The one day/night softball 14-team tournament will be held the last Saturday of every month at the DCC ground.
