An 18-year-old Mocha man will be performing six months of community service after he admitted to the possession of cannabis.
Leon France told Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday at the George-town Magistrates’ Court that he was guilty of having four grammes of the illegal drug in his possession on the Ruimveldt Public Road.
The defendant’s attorney Robert Daniels told the court that his client, who is involved in construction work, left school at an early age to help care for his ailing mother. He explained that France’s willingness and honesty in accepting the crime was a nonverbal form of him expressing remorse for his actions. The attorney further reasoned that France needs counselling.
The magistrate after considering the attorney’s submission re-quested that the defendant visit a probation officer. He was fined $3000, along with six months of community service.
