Dwayne Stuffer, a New Amsterdam resident was sentenced to three years imprisonment on Monday after pleading guilty to the charge of possession of narcotics with the intent of trafficking.
The 26-year-old of Lot 2 Angoy’s Avenue appeared before Magistrate Charlyn Artiga in the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s court to answer the charge which stated that on Friday, February 6 at Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam he had in his possession a narcotic, 50 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
According to the facts presented by police prosecutor, Sergeant Phillip Sherriff, on the said day at approximately 15:30h the police saw the defendant acting in a suspicious manner during a mobile patrol in the vicinity of Ogilton Dam, Angoy’s Avenue.
He was stopped and a search was conducted during which the officers found a black plastic bag in his crotch with several tiny transparent zip lock bags containing leaves, seeds and stems which appeared to be marijuana.
When given the opportunity to speak, the defendant told the court although the officer did not weigh the illegal substance in his presence, all the other facts as stated were true.
