Tourney host Pele FC, Beacons FC, Black Water and Western Tigers qualified for the u-17 semi-final section of the Frank Watson Memorial u-15 and u-17 tourney following quarterfinal wins yesterday.
Hosted at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) in Bourda, Black Water upset defending champs Fruta Conquerors 3-2 on penalty kicks after normal time finished 0-0 in the opening match of the day.
Similarly sealing their berth to the semi-final section was hosts GFC who defeated Western Tigers 2-0. Marvin Carter opened the scoring in the seventh minute, lashing his effort to the right side after skipping past two defenders following a solo run.
The win would then be sealed in the 33rd minute as Stephon Laroc netted, lashing his effort to lower left side from within the centre of the penalty area.
In the second fixture, Pele FC overcame Sunburst Camptown by a 3-2 score line. Leon Richardson opened the scoring for Pele with a second minute strike. The Campbellville unit would then level the score line as Alonzo Ferdinand scored in the 16th minute.
Pele would then retake the advantage in the 30th minute as Richardson netted his second. Akosi Jarvis would then increase Pele’s lead as etched his name on the scorer’s sheet two minutes onward.
Shamar DeMattas would eventually cut the deficit to one for Camptown with a 36th minute conversion. The third fixture witnessed Beacons FC edging Santos FC by a 4-2 margin on penalty kicks. The score line at the end of regulation time was 0-0.
The action is slated to continue on Saturday 21st at the same venue with the semi-final round of the u-15 section while the u-17 semi-final round will commence on Sunday 22nd.
