Sherwin Lynch, accused of stealing a Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone from a woman, was yesterday remanded to prison after he denied committing the crime when he appeared in a city court.
Lynch, 40, of East Ruimveldt, pleaded not guilty to the charge, which states that he stole the phone, valued $83,000, from the person of Cassidy France on February 13 on Hadfield Street.
Prosecutor Addunni Inniss objected to bail and told Magistrate Annette Singh that Lynch is before another court on a pending matter. Inniss further cast doubt on the possibility of Lynch returning for trial if bail is granted, saying he gave an address to the court which conflicted with the one he gave to the police.
The prosecution’s objection was subsequently upheld and Lynch was remanded to prison until February 26, when the next hearing in the case is scheduled.
