The Guyana National Shipping Corporation Limited (GNSCL) has purchased four new Doosan forklifts at a cost of $21 million to improve the company’s cargo handling capacity.
According to a press release form GNSCL, the purchase made last month is the largest single investment in forklift trucks for the past ten years. Each is equipped with D30G dual wheel drive with side shifter rated at 3,000kg 500mm load centre containing a three stage free triple mast which can comfortably fit in a container.
The new forklifts will provide faster discharge times for pre-palletised and bulk cargo vessels at the La Penitence Terminal, the report said. In addition, the equipment will be used to facilitate the de-stuffing containers, the receipt and delivery of cargo inclusive of cement, fertilizer, salt, rice, and wheat/bran.
Managing Director of GNSCL Andrew Astwood said the purchases will result in higher levels of efficiency in service provided to customers using the terminal.
He also encouraged the forklift operators to handle them with the utmost care so as to preserve the life of the newly acquired assets.
