Special Mining Lotteries planned for this month by the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) have had to be postponed to next month because of the recent strike at the agency.
An advertisement in yesterday’s Stabroek News by the Closed Area Committee of the GGMC expressed regret at the postponement of the lotteries for Mahdia, Mining District #2 and Port Kaituma, Mining District #5 because of the strike.
These lotteries are now scheduled to be held on March 26, simultaneously in both areas.
Almost two months of strike action over non-payment of wage increases ended on January 28 this year.
