A woman yesterday found herself before a city court charged with attempted murder after she allegedly stabbed a co-worker who refused her request to dance.
The allegation against Kim Carter, 26, of Lot 8 Schoonard Housing Scheme, La Parfaite Har-monie, is that on February 12, at Puttering Backdam, she wounded Richard Rabindra with intent to murder him.
Carter pleaded not guilty when Chief Magis-trate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry read the charge to her at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court 1.
Prosecutor Bharat Mangru said the accused and her victim, who were employed at the same camp, were drinking before the altercation. He said Carter asked Rabindra to dance and he refused. According to the prosecutor, Carter then called Rabindra “a girl” and he slapped her, after which she left and returned with a knife and dealt him two stabs, one to his left hand and another to the right side of his chest.
The accused was represented by attorney Melvin Duke, who made an application for bail to be granted. He stated that Carter defended herself to the best of her ability since she was attacked from behind by the victim and slapped to her left ear.
Duke also said Carter has been employed at the said camp for a number of years and if bail is granted she will also return for trial.
Bail was eventually set at $300,000 and the matter was transferred to the Bartica Magistrate’s Court’s for February 26.
