Jaguars must continue to play as a team

Guyana Jaguars Assistant Coach Rayon Griffith said the players must continue to play as a team if they are to continue to be successful in the current West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Professional Cricket League four-day tournament.

According to Griffith the Guyana team which arrived in Barbados earlier this week, was in good spirits ahead of their clash with the home team, Barbados Pride tomorrow at the Kensington Oval Ground, Bridgetown.

The former Guyana quick bowler, during a brief but exclusive interview with Stabroek Sports yesterday, said that the table leaders, were in a positive frame of mind following successive wins over Jamaica and the Leeward Islands. “We arrived in Barbados yesterday and the camp is in good spirits. We have to continue in that same vein and continue to play well as a team,” said Griffith.

Speaking about the strength of the team, the 36-year-old Griffith explained that the strength in the team was based on unity. “Playing as a team, that is our main strength. Both sides are playing good cricket at the moment but I believe we (Guyana Jaguars” will do well,” he added. Responding to the question whether the Jaguars, who recently made it to the 2015 Regional 50 over final, can win the four-day competition, he said: “As long as we continue playing good cricket, we can get the job done.” Guyana, who are on top of the table with 92 points from six matches, will seek to make it three successive wins when the battle the Barbados Pride who are second on the table with 77 points from tomorrow.

Leading wicket taker for the tournament Veerasammy Permaul (46), is four scalps of collecting 50 first-class wickets in the season from just seven matches. Meanwhile, his partner Davendra Bishoo is second on the wicket-taking list with 30 wickets and will also be keen on adding to his collection.
