(Jamaica Gleaner) Former West Indies Players’ Association president (WIPA) Dinanath Ramnarine says opener Chris Gayle has received a “discipline letter” from the West Indies management staff.
Ramnarine tweeted last evening that Gayle received the letter from team manager Richie Richardson and Richard Pybus, director of cricket for the West Indies in New Zealand.
Ramnarine was sarcastic about the move: “Well done guys as if being beaten against Ireland was not enough!!” he tweeted.
The disciplinary action against Gayle follows his public criticism of the omission of Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard from the West Indies squad for this month’s World Cup.
West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) president Dave Cameron, had said Gayle had breached the code of conduct clause in the contract for the team’s tour of South Africa last month.
When contacted last night WIPA president Wavell Hinds said he was unaware of any disciplinary action against Gayle or the tweet from Ramnarine.
The West Indies are set to face Pakistan in the second match today after their shock four wicket defeat to Ireland on Sunday in their opening match of the World Cup.
