Dolphin Secondary secured their first win, hammering Houston Secondary by a 6-0 margin when the third annual Milo/Petra Organization Secondary Schools u-20 football tourney continued yesterday.
Under wet conditions at the Ministry of Education ground in Carifesta Avenue, Darrel Omalis opened the scoring in the fourth minute with a fortuitous strike from the half line that bounced comically bounced over the goalkeeper and into the net.
Leon Richardson would then make it 2-0 three minutes onward compliments of a header into the back of the net after latching onto a left sided cross within the penalty box.
The score would increase once more as Shamar Charles scored in the 14th minute, dribbling his marker before unleashing a strike into the back of the net from inside the penalty box.
Dolphin Secondary’s advantage would increase once more as Ryan Dowding etched his name on the scorer’s sheet one minute onward.
Dakhawn Matthews would then get in the goal scoring act in the 36th minute, lashing his effort into the right hand corner of the net from just outside the middle of the box.
The result would then be completed six minutes later as Richardson sealed his double with a finish into the back of the goal from within the 18 yard box, following a solo run from the centre of the field.
In the second fixture, Queen’s College and Mae’s Secondary battled to a 1-1 draw. Emmanuel Trotman gave Mae’s Secondary the early lead as he netted in the 31st minute. However, the Camp Road unit would level the score 10 minutes later through a Kevin Wills effort to seal a point.
Also clinching wins were the Bishops’ High and East Ruimveldt Secondary. Bishops’ High defeated New Campbellville via walkover while East Ruimveldt Secondary defeated Carmel Secondary by an identical income.
The fifth fixture between Chase Academy and St. John’s College was rescheduled to a later date.
Winners of the event will pocket the championship trophy and $500,000 towards the building of any school project while the second, third and fourth placed sides will pocket $300,000, $200,000 and $100,000 respectively towards the funding of a school venture and the corresponding accolade.
On the individual side, awards will be given for the event’s most valuable player, highest goal scorer and best goal keeper while four full scholarships to attend Chase Academy free of cost will also be up for grabs. The action is scheduled to continue at the same venue on Saturday 28th.
